Chapter 17

For the last couple of weeks, Aliza was slowly changing. Her lifestyle had made a drastic turn for the worse and she didn’t have any control over it. The cocaine habit that she took lightly had overpowered her will to stop using the drug. She missed Terrence, but at the same time she knew that their relationship would never be the same as it before. Deep down inside Aliza understood that she won’t be faithful to Terrance because of her love for money, and could never be the woman that he wants her to be. For her love was out the picture. She sold her body like a high price trick, but in her mind she believed that she was just doing what she had to do to survive, just like any other woman.

Aliza approached Rita’s back door to pick up her son. After she knocked, Rita opened it and didn’t show any signs of being sleep.

“Lil Cory and Bam Bam are playing in the room.” Rita told her as she let her inside the kitchen.

“Girl, you look like you been up all night. Lil Cory hasn’t been a problem has he?”

Rita smacked her teeth. “Nah, girl that ain’t it. Otis done fucked around and got himself locked up.’’

“Locked up?’’ Aliza asked shocked.

Rita walked over and sat down on one of her kitchen chairs. “He just called me not too long ago. Vice raided one of the apartments in Hilltop and he got caught up. He had those pills on him and shit.” She rubbed her face with frustration. “I can’t believe that Otis would fuck up like this.”

“When does he go to court?” Aliza took a seat in the chair beside her.

“Monday morning around about ten o’clock. Aliza, I don’t need this bullshit right now. I can’t get him out of jail, because I don’t have any money for that. “Rita sighed. “Damn.”

“Rita, you need to calm down, okay? You and Otis are going to make it through this. Bam Bam needs you right now”.

“Momma!” Lil Cory bolted down the hallway and into Aliza’s arms.

“Hey, baby. I hope that you’ve been good for me.” Aliza smiled.

Lil Cory shook his head. “Auntie Rita let us watch Toy Story.”

“That’s good.’’ Aliza paused and looked over at her friend. “Let’s go out tonight. It’ll get your mind off of things.”

“Go out?” Rita huffed. “Shit, I don’t have nothing to wear, and besides, what if Otis calls?”

Aliza ignored her. “You need to stop making excuses and come go out with me. Two of my co-workers can come and we can all hang out together. ”

Rita exhaled loudly. “Alright, but I’m not staying out all night. You know that I don’t get down like that.”

“Okay, I’ll get Mrs. Kat to watch the boys for us. You know that she’s the neighborhood daycare.”

Rita finally smiled a little. “You’re not lying about that. Even though she use to smoke that shit, she’s still good people.”

“Alright, be ready round about eight o’clock. Phylicia and Cherokee will pick us up.
